Take Time with God

Having Devotions is spending time with God. Adam did this with God in the cool of the day. Abraham communicated with the Lord as well and escaped by knowing the God’s will!

The word “devotion” comes from the word “devoted” a good meaning for our purposes. That is devoted to Christ and the life He would us live in Him. It is sort of like having bread for sustenance for the day or a connection with the Lord to meet spiritual need.

In the Old Testament a thing devoted to God was irrevocably God’s. This is how we should do our lives, if we are believers in Christ. We should seek to be consecrated to the Lord or could we say dedication to God. This is a great thing to desire and do, devote your life to God and escape a terrible eternity! We need to spend time with the Lord before we would want this. Another way of thinking about consecration is by making Christ LORD of your life. It is also a discipleship thing, a pledge with personal conviction and divine unction to make ones self totally set apart to God. Devotion to God is a commitment to follow in faithfulness and a continuance to learn Christ and build that daily walk with Christ. How good to have a very wonderful relationship for a life time with the Lord. Then in eternity you will hear the words of the Master.. “Well done good and faithful servant, enter the joy of thy Lord.”

The best devotional book is the Bible. Jeanne and I also read together books written about the Bible who have trusted authors. Take the word of God the Bible and systematically go through the books of the Bible day in and day out, year after year. This will feed your soul with spiritual nourishment and this will give you godly strength. You will find information just for the day you are living it often seems. it will renew your mind and you will be growing in the knowledge of God’s Word. Observe what it says and think about it. The Word of God will generate more faith in you and help you draw closer to the Lord, Remember that the Christian life is a personal relationship with the living resurrected Christ. Psalm 119 is all about the great value of God’s Word!

We must go to the well (Christ) and drink, Mt. 5:20. Are you spiritually thirsty? “Let the Word dwell in you richly...” Col. 3:16. When the Word moves in it settles us down and we feel at home. There is some interesting thoughts in John 4 that shows how we can be satisfied with the living water. The Word brings self control and conformity to God. What can be better?

And Prayer: So important as well as the other two above. Prayer is communication with God. We are told in I Thes. that we are to pray without ceasing. Jesus often prayed when on earth and the disciples asked of Him, “Teach us to pray.” You will be interested in material on the Prayer Life page.
