1. The World: This is the enemy outside of us. There are two words in the Greek language that are translated “world.” In I Jn. 2:17 the world “world” comes form the Gr.. word kosmos. Here is the way the verse reads: “And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.” This verse actually says that this kosmos, mother earth will not last forever. It has a termination factor. Life as we know it on planet earth will eventually end. this will happen when the Lord is finished with His program here. This verse also lets us know how to escape the doom that hovers over mother earth. The second Greek word translated “world” in the Bible is aion and refers to the godless society around us. Woe it is dangerous out there without the Lord as a refuge. Let’s check out Titus 2:12 where that word is used. We record here both 11 and 12 for connection. “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present world” The KJV Bible uses the word “world” here but the word “age” is more accurate as this word refers to the godless society around us. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides ever, I John 2:17. I Corinthians 7:31, similar message. |
