The Enemies
animated line not but static

The enemy has incredible deceitful powers. Man is no match for the enemy. We need God’s wisdom and power to escape the dashing of our lives to useless senses. The Spirit is our Helper, trust and obey!

The Bible refers to three enemies of mankind. Jesus exposed the devil in John 8:44. He operates with deception and aims at destruction. He is operating on three fronts with his demonic helpers. These three are the world, the flesh and the devil. Read on for a little of the bad.

Satan 2

1. The World: This is the enemy outside of us. There are two words in the Greek language that are translated “world.” In I Jn. 2:17 the world “world” comes form the Gr.. word kosmos. Here is the way the verse reads: “And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.” This verse actually says that this kosmos, mother earth will not last forever. It has a termination factor. Life as we know it on planet earth will eventually end. this will happen when the Lord is finished with His program here. This verse also lets us know how to escape the doom that hovers over mother earth.

The second Greek word translated “world” in the Bible is aion and refers to the godless society around us. Woe it is dangerous out there without the Lord as a refuge. Let’s check out Titus 2:12 where that word is used. We record here both 11 and 12 for connection. “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present world” The KJV Bible uses the word “world” here but the word “age” is more accurate as this word refers to the godless society around us.

The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides ever, I John 2:17. I Corinthians 7:31, similar message.

2. The Flesh: There is a powerful verse in Romans 8:9 that we will use for our number two enemy, the “flesh.” This is the enemy within us. “However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.” The Gr. word “sarx” is a word that is translated flesh and means meat stripped of skin. It symbolizes the human nature with its weakness and sinful passion. It is this lower nature that wars against the spirit or the new nature within the believer after salvation. After a believer is delivered to heaven and home to be with Chris the struggle of our sojourn here below is over. No more of that nonsense, we will be like Christ in holiness on a practical level. This is another element of our salvation. This enemy can raise its ugly head when we least expect it. We must have a close walk with Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:21, creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into freedom of the glory of the children of God... Galatians 6:8, For the one who sows to his own flesh will from t he flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

3. The Devil: This spiritual being defied his creator and was cast out of heaven. With power He rules the kingdom of darkness and holds on to the souls of men. Ruthless deceiver and arch enemy of the soul, daring to tempt Christ himself, defying authority over him he is on course to be dumped into the Lake of Fire. This is recorded in the closing of the book of Revelation. Active with his emissaries he is plane out to get us through his sinister ways. Know your boundaries, he is just on the other side. Job 2:2, “And the Lord said to Satan, Where have you come from? Then Satan answered the LORD and said, From roaming about on the earth, and walking around on it.” See how he is looking for one that he might devour, I Peter 5:8, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary the devil prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Also lets look at Revelation 20:10, And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Satan is a defeated foe: Hebrews. 2:14: “Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He (Christ) Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil...”

The believer’s salvation will be finalized when we leave this world and arrive in glory to be with Christ. Heb. 9:28: “So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him...”
