The 11 disciples escaped to a better life at the call of Jesus. One blundered in unbelief and did not escape but to his own demise. Woe!

Seven Bible Truth Mandates for Disciples: The Lord reveals in His Word the mandates for true disciples. The late William MacDonald in his little book True Discipleship makes good reference and commentary to these biblical claims. The goal of discipleship is to create a positive relationship with Jesus Christ. If a born again believer is progressing spiritually in his walk with Jesus the truths in the following scriptures will be meaningful. They can be developed and empowered in a human life by God's grace. By these kinds of believers, God gets His work on earth done.

• Luke 14:26... A Supreme love for Jesus Christ. (The context of this verse bears the thought that a true love, agape love, for Jesus will be supreme over all other loves. Other loves will be considered as hate compared to the love that we have for the Savior.
• Matthew 16:24... A personal denial of self.
• Matthew 16:24... A deliberate choosing of the cross.
• Matthew 16:24... A life spent in following Christ.
• John 13:35... A fervent love for all who belong to Christ.
• John 8:31... An unswerving continuance in God's Word.
• Luke 14:33... A forsaking of all to follow Christ.

God is at work when disciples are make. In the great commission in Matthew 28 Jesus commanded that the 12 go and make disciples of all nations. The church of Jesus Christ has done this down through the centuries to one degree or another. God is at work and God’s people are involved when disciples are made. It takes time and commitment to make disciples. Not many are willing to forego life’s fleeting and precious time to go the distance and engage the process. However this is a valuable exercise for shaping and molding new believers to a high status of godly functionality.

The above mandates should be memorized, if not word for word, in concept. Practice what you know and pray that you might enter into this part of God’s will for your life.

The Vital Word of God is what does the Job. Making Disciples is no easy path for life and will never be discovered without God’s Spirit led and Bible truth oriented information. It should be simply obeyed. The other life becomes secondary to God’s will. To those who lack faith in God and what He has declared or revealed this may seem ludicrous. But God knows the future and knows that our frame is but dust and He desires that we be motivated by the abundant life, John 10:9 and 10. This life will extend into eternity where we are all headed.

Colossians 3:1-17 are a set of excellent verses that contrast the earth bound worldly life and the life in lived in Christ.

Galatians 2:20 is a great verse to consider for one contemplating being a full fledged disciple. We need to think and know that the life lived in the flesh is to be lived by the faith of the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us!

For it is the Lord Jesus Christ who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, Galatians 1:3 and 4.

Paul said, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain, Philippines 1:21.

Mark wrote by the Spirit, “What shall a man profit if he gains the world and loses his soul, 8:6

Jesus said, Follow me, Mark 1:17. Jesus said, Learn of me, Matthew 11:29.

Then again we are exhorted to Seek first God’s Kingdom and all the rest will take care of itself, Matthew 6:33.

Our prayer is that this will make godly sense to you. Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him and it will happen!
